ABOUT Dr. KHOSRAVI

I am a well experienced physician specialized in both General Psychiatry and obstetrics and Gynecology.

My training in psychiatry was done at Westchester Medical Center (affiliated with New York Medical College), where I received extensive training in different fields of psychiatry including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and consultation liaison.

Currently I am serving as a staff psychiatrist at Metropolitan State Hospital where I treat complicated psychiatric patients.  Prior to this, I maintained privilege at Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Memorial Hospital and Westchester Medical Center in the state of New York.

I graduated from Medical School in 1994 and subsequently, I completed my internship and residency in OB/GYN and worked as an OB/GYN specialist for more than a decade before I switched to psychiatry.

My philosophy is to believe in the potential of human beings and the fact that one treatment modality will not work for all human beings. I utilize standard evidence-based medical and psychiatric assessment, psychiatric medication and psychotherapy treatment, in addition to nutritional, physical activity, and interpersonal interventions to create person-centered treatment plans. I use different treatment modalities not limited to cognitive-behavioral interventions, psychodynamic interpretation, dialectical behavioral tools and family therapy principles to provide a comprehensive therapeutic framework for my clients. Above all, I listen to the patient and try to understand the individual and collaborate with the patient to develop a  personalized and research based treatment plan that fits the patient’s needs and requests in the best way possible.

Being an immigrant myself and struggling with cultural differences at the beginning of my immigration, I am well aware of  the role of culture in psychiatry and I believe in responding sensitively and effectively to people of all cultures, races, classes, and religions, in a manner that the inherent worth of the visiting individuals is recognized and affirmed.

I am a native Farsi speaker and speak English fluently as my second language.
